Over the past fourteen years, Art of FACELESS and The Hollow Circuit® have operated under a foundational principle: independent creators must never mistake rented digital land for sovereign territory. We have consistently warned against building creative infrastructure on corporate platforms designed around algorithmic capture, arbitrary censorship, and behavioural modification.
Today, we are formalising that stance by terminating our presence across mainstream social media channels.
Accounts across Meta platforms (Instagram, Facebook and Threads), X, Bluesky, Mastodon, and adjacent networks will no longer be actively maintained, monitored, or fed. They remain registered strictly to defend our trademarks and studio identity against impersonation, but we are decommissioning them as communicative spaces.
The Mathematics of the Rage Economy
This is neither an impulsive retreat nor a performative gesture; it is an overdue operational correction.
The prevailing social media model relies explicitly on a rage economy. These networks are engineered to incentivise ideological purity tests, moral panics, and reflexive hostility while actively suppressing nuanced artistic and technological synthesis. For an independent press committed to adult speculative fiction, transhumanist themes, machine-human hybrid methodologies, and empirical creative research, these spaces have become actively counter-productive.
From a publisher’s perspective, the equation is broken: they demand immense metabolic energy, constant formatting compromises, and relentless engagement for an algorithmic return that is negligible at best and corrosive at worst. Spending finite creative bandwidth to satisfy platforms that thrive on friction and reactionary discourse is no longer tenable.
Where Our Architecture Remains Active
We are consolidating all studio communication into channels where discourse can be curated responsibly, and signal takes precedence over noise:
- Sovereign Infrastructure (Ghost & Shopify): Our canonical lore, research dossiers, and definitive archives reside at artoffaceless.com (with writing archives at blog.artoffaceless.com). We distribute physical publications, hybrid prints, and limited editions exclusively through our press shop.
- The Substack Outposts: While we remain clear-eyed and publicly critical regarding the platform compromises inherent to Substack, it currently provides the one thing corporate feeds destroy: direct, unmediated contact with readers. Substack allows us to moderate comments, protect our community from bad-faith harassment, and deliver long-form essays and updates directly to your inbox. Subscribers will receive the full breadth of the AoF publishing network — independent, unvarnished, and free from algorithmic dilution.
- Autonomous Visual Feeds: Channels that function entirely on zero-effort automation — such as our visual boards on Pinterest and our broadcast archive on The Hollow Circuit TV (YouTube) — will remain quietly active as passive discovery beacons. We will not be checking notifications or engaging with feeds there.
Navigating the Hostile Web
As the commercial web splinters into walled gardens, automated policing, and heightened hostility toward sovereign creative tooling, we will document our transition. We intend to share observations, strategic workflows, and practical insights on our Substack for other independent creators and researchers seeking to extricate their work from extractive social platforms.
If you have followed our work on social media, we invite you to disconnect from those feeds and join us where the work actually lives.
Sign up to our primary dispatches via Substack, explore the core narrative archives at blog.artoffaceless.com, and view our physical editions at artoffaceless.com.
The noise has been switched off. The work continues.
